Se Busca Madrecuishe Artesanal Joven Mezcal is crafted with by the incredible team at the family-run Lopez Sosa distillery in San Juan del Rio, Oaxaca, Mexico. This artisanal mezcal is a celebration of female empowerment, a homage to the brave women who dared to break through cultural barriers during the Mexican Revolution. This small-batch mezcal, masterfully overseen by Eleana Nuez, uses 100% fully grown wild-harvested Madrecuishe agave. The agave is roasted in an earthen pit, crushed under a traditional Tahona stone, and double-distilled in copper-pot stills. On the nose, you’re greeted with white pepper, wet hay, Cerignola olives, and ripe tropical fruits. Tasting it reveals acacia honey, black plantains, candied ginger, grilled pineapple, charred Serrano peppers, Malabar peppercorns, Thai basil, and a wisp of smoke. The finish? A medium-long dance of pickled jalapeo, braised celery, Aleppo chilies, and lingering smoke.
